“The Carer in the Cotswolds”

'The Chase'

You’ve identified wrongdoing by one person

At a hospital, back come these ominous words

That amount to no more than knowing aversion:

‘We think you’ll find that this is what occurred’

Or ‘We are sorry you’re distressed your spouse or loved one

Suffered injuries whilst with us, and in our care,

But there’s no record, so it’s not within our power,

We regret (‘Ha, ha’), to help you, it ends there’

‘In any event, we’re sad to say, the point has been entirely missed;

Our complaints process, as you should really know,

(Is a total farce and) does not in any way, shape, form exist

To lay blame on individuals, and so…

We refer you to the Ombudsman (the Health Service’s

Own champion, and protector, for forty years)

As the ‘independent’ arbiter for grievances’

(But who’s actually NHS leaning, have no fears)

And when he has found against you, worry not –

There’s always the courts, ‘Pay for a judicial review

Of his findings’; it’s just a question – have you got

Sixty thousand pounds to spare to see that through?

‘There’s no one to supervise, withdraw their blessing?’

‘No, correct, for the Public Admin and Constitutional

Affairs Committee of Parliament stopped reassessing

Individual cases, not something really very useful’

You might as well be chasing trails of paper

Left strewn for you to follow as a part

Of some cruel game; fit them together, and they say ‘Sir,

Have you not realised? You’ve been buggered from the start…’
