“The Carer in the Cotswolds”

Flotsam and Jetsam (Our 'caring' NHS)

Why is it that consultants and our doctors
Are never disciplined when evidenced as lying?
And that their management will heartlessly have mocked us
By ‘not accepting’ what we say, even decrying

Reports we faithfully and trustingly give to them,
As born of malice, non-independent or unreliable?
When the truth’s disinclination to condemn
‘Professional’ colleagues, whose replacement is not viable?

Such higher ups will never face the comeback
We the public think their cover ups should merit;
Not for them, either, suspensions or ‘the sack’,
Just exorbitant rates of salary, and the credit

For a job well done, protecting key physicians
From the consequences of dishonesty;
And so they walk scot free, retaining their positions,
When we know it’d mean the end for you and me

Make lamentation to your own GP (you’re sure to),
Be you their patient twenty, thirty years or more,
They’ll simply bow their heads, clam up and then ignore you;
Far from assisting, they’ll just look down at the floor

And, worst of all, they give no thought to the effects of
This injustice on its victims, disregarded
By a system cruelly based on a sub-text of
Equals disbelieved, dismissed, and then discarded

No wonder they can’t sleep, they’re bruised and battered,
Immense psychological issues to surmount,
Their every faith in the world outside left totally shattered
As they’ve been shown that they and theirs just didn’t count

Flotsam and jetsam to our ‘caring’ NHS,
‘Collateral damage’ when their backs are against the wall;
The painful truth comes down to what they’d never once confess –
That they couldn’t give a stuff for anyone else at all

‘We all need the NHS’, so goes the chorus;
A family friend? It used to be – but the abyss
Of its dark side now yawns wide open before us;
Things have to change, they can’t remain like this
