'The GMC and the 'Sleeping' GP'
Disrespect and disregard, so many readings to re-take;
Insufficient supervision, when a life was still at stake;
Saw fit to go out to his car, where he was found, getting ‘shut eye’;
Reclining in his seat, and fifty minutes now gone by;
Encroaching on a visit, still to run its own, full, course,
Phone set to low priority line, 90 minutes, I had to force
Using 999 upon him (something he had failed to do!);
Technician, similarly disporting, taken from the bedside, too;
End result, for your profession? Major disrepute, for you…
Defibrillator stopped, just packed in, early CPR;
Its charge he’d never checked, before he’d set out in his car;
‘Safety wasn’t an issue here’, is all the GMC can bluster,
‘Repetition isn’t likely’ (a shift check list – what to muster!);
Except a patient died, amidst a casual disregard;
People merit more than this – they’re not just units, to discard;
Unthinkable such incompetence can simply be ushered through;
To use the toilet, will that be what comes next, that he’ll need
to be told, to do?
End result, for your profession? Major disrepute, for you…
Dosed my mother full of morphine, all the protocols torn apart,
Initial jab four times the strength from which a hospital ward
would start;
So: why’s the GMC insisting this doctor’s in the clear?
Rejecting protestations: ‘Nothing to see here’?
Except fifteen thousand people have now signed, to disagree;
Petitioners, sad or outraged, that he’s been let off, scot free;
Undercut by the mere dictat of (and this is just pure farce)
Two voices in the wilderness (two assistant registrars);
Expect no last line, this time, from me, as there’s no reason,
from you…
